Architectural Hinges

Architectural hinges are available in sizes, weights, materials, and styles to meet most any commercial door application. Using the correct hinge in a door assembly is a primary consideration not only for proper function, but for years of trouble-free operation. Special modifications such as power transfers, air transfers, and monitor switches can be integrated with other door hardware to obtain the desired door opening function. Common types of architectural hinges (many of which are in stock) include:

  • Full Mortise & Half Mortise Hinges
  • Full Surface & Half Surface Hinges
  • Anchor Hinges
  • Electric Hinges & PoE Hinges
  • Swing Clear Hinges
  • Spring Hinges & Double Acting Hinges
  • Wide Throw Hinges

Continuous Hinges & Geared Hinges

Continuous pin and barrel hinges are available in stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum. Continuous hinges with integral edge guards provide exceptional protection for the door hinge edge and are especially suited for hospital doors that are wider, heavier, or subject to impact from stretchers and equipment. Roton or geared aluminum hinges are available in clear or bronze anodized finish or can be factory painted to match custom colors. Geared hinges can be modified to include concealed electric through-wires and door position switches. Continuous pin and barrel and geared hinges’ no-gap design provide privacy, safety, vandal resistance, and weather protection. Hinges that extend the full height of the door distribute the extreme stresses put on hinges evenly the height of the frame providing a long life cycle with less maintenance at:

  • High Traffic Doors
  • Lead-Lined Doors
  • Heavy Doors up to 1000 lbs
  • Doors Subject to Abuse

Pivots

Pivots are designed to work with the laws of physics to provide long-lasting performance and reliability. A door supported on pivots relies on the strength of the floor to carry the weight thus providing a means to hang extremely heavy doors in an opening and allowing for door adjustment throughout the life of the building to compensate for settlement. Pivots are not dependent upon support from a frame so that doors can be hung in a frameless opening. Many types of pivots and special modifications are available to allow unique opening designs and functions.

  • Offset Pivot Applications
  • Center Hung Pivot Applications
  • Thick Doors
  • Heavy & Lead Lined Doors
  • Emergency Release Openings
  • Power Transfer Applications

Special Application Hinges & Pivots

Pocket Pivots are commonly used in cross-corridor door applications including fire
rated doors. Pocket pivots can only swing 90 degrees and allow doors to open into and sit in a pocket in the wall. Pocket Pivots are available from Ives, McKinney, and Rixson.

Pivot Reinforced Hinges are an economical way to add years of life to door openings by providing a means to correct a sagging door  typically caused by failure of the hinge screws or hinge reinforcement at the top hinge. Pivot reinforced hinges are available from ABH, Adams Rite, Don-Jo, Hager, Markar, and Stanley.

PEMKO’s Double Swing Hinge with Emergency Release Stop is an innovative healthcare solution that permits quick door opening in an emergency situation. A double swing continuous geared hinge is  combined with an emergency release stop to provide additional safety features that are easy to use and help minimize risk.

Locks & Cylinders

Cylindrical Locks

Available with levers or knobs including decorative designs. Heavy duty Grade 1 locks accommodate the most demanding installations. Grade 2 and 3 locks are available for those situations that do not demand a heavy duty product and cost is a factor. Many manufacturers, models, finishes, and designs are in stock for immediate shipment.

Mortise Locks

Mortise locks provide the greatest range of designs and functions while also providing the greatest strength and durability. Locks meet or exceed ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 Grade 1 and are ideally suited for school and universities, hospitals, office buildings, and government facilities.  Many models are designed where the function and hand can be changed without opening the lock case. Options offered only in mortise locks such as Anti Vandal Pull Trim, Occupancy Indicators, and Integrated Deadbolts make mortise locks the only solution for many situations.

Electrified Locks

Many cylindrical and mortise locks are available with electrified options: Solenoids can provide locking of outside and/or inside levers or knobs in both Fail Secure (locked when power is interrupted) or Fail Safe (unlocked when power is interrupted) models. Request-to-Exit switches (REX) signal when the unsecured side of the lock has been used. Additional switches are available to monitor the position of the latch or deadbolt (mortise locks only).

Access Control Locks

Locks are available in both standalone and software driven models. A battery operated keypad lock is a cost effective method to maintain control of a small quantity of openings, even available with audit trail capabilities. Many configurations of keypads, cards, and remote RF fobs can be integrated into third party access control software systems. WiFi battery operated locks minimize the cost of getting power and communication wire to door openings, yet can provide nearly all the features of a hardwired system.

Exit Devices

Types of Exit Devices

Exit Devices are generally one of three basic types: rim, mortise, and vertical rod. Rim Exit Devices are surface mounted with a latch or bolt that projects over a surface mounted strike on either the door frame or opposite leaf of a pair of doors. Mortise Exit Devices have a lock body similar to a mortise lock and can be used on a single door or the active leaf of a pair of doors. Vertical Rod Exit Devices are available with surface and concealed rods and are generally used in pairs on pairs of doors or on the inactive leaf of a pair with either a rim or mortise device on the active leaf.

Touchbar or Crossbar Exit Device

Touchbar Exit Devices are the most common current application. The touchbar style minimizes the possibility of chaining two doors together and not only preventing exit through the doors but also violating egress building codes. The touchbars also provide space to add electrical modifications for monitoring or remote unlocking of the device and integrate well into access control systems. Crossbar devices are generally used to maintain a traditional or historical appearance.

Alarmed and Delayed Egress Exit Devices

Alarmed exit hardware is designed with an integrated alarm which will sound when anyone depresses the touchbar and discourage use of the door. The alarm can be turned off or reset with a key. Devices are usually battery powered, but are also available where it can be powered with an external power supply.

Removable Mullion

Rim exit devices used with a removable mullion on pairs of doors provide the most secure and maintenance free application when doors require panic exit hardware.

The mullion closes the gap between the doors which not only minimizes forced entry, but also provides additional weather sealing. Mullions are available with keyed locking to make removal of the mullion much easier.

Electrified mullions designed for use with electric strikes include a wire harness to make connection of power for the strikes much more convenient.
